About Steve:
Steve was raised in his Dads machine shop, but being the rebellious type had to try his
hand in the construction business, after several years of Sunstroke, frost bite and
smashed / cut fingers, was finally convinced buy a good friend (Dave) to go to work at
Robinson Auto Machine, They were looking for someone to operate their crankshaft
grinding machine. Robinson Machine had the full compliment of Sunnen Engine
Rebuilding Equipment.
Over the next 5 years Steve was able to learn to operate all the
Equipment and also gained a wide variety of experience working on all sorts of
engines. From Antique Model "T" to Drag racing and Sprint car race engines,
Even working on Rolls Royce and Allison Airplane engines.
One day John Goodman walked in and announced that he was moving to St.Louis.
He had been promoted to National Sales manager after only one year as Sunnen Field
Engineer. (He had taken over the Utah, Idaho,Montana part of Wayne Schmidt's
Territory a year earlier.)
When Steve inquired as to who the new Sunnen Rep would be, John replied " I don't
know- we are still looking- are you interested" That was back in January 1984
Steve was attending the University of Utah Majoring in Mechanical Engineering/ Minor
in Business. The rest is history, Steve started with Sunnen in February 1984
as a Field Engineer for the Automotive division of Sunnen Products Co. One year later
when Harry Lyon-the Industrial division field engineer- was looking at cutting back his
territory, Sunnen decided to do an experiment and brought Steve in for training as the
first "Dual" field engineer. Steve would now cover the area he overlapped Harry for
booth Automotive and Industrial divisions. Being a territory with
limited population and many miles between accounts handling booth divisions made
good sense and eventually Sunnen trained a dozen dual reps.
There were many cross-over technologies that came from the Dual rep program.
Steve has always been grateful for the wide variety of experience obtained from working
booth sides of Sunnen Products Company. This was expanded further when a job
transfer took Steve and his family to Minnesota in 1994. Minneapolis was the home to
his Wife Karen so that worked out great. Steve would loose the western part of his
original territory but would be covering the upper Midwest and even into the Milwaukee
and Chicago area. Steve looks forward to serving the many Customers / Friends he has
made over the years, now as an Independent Rep.
